About Me
Meet Joseph Fryer
Dual-Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and Family Nurse Practitioner

I’m Joseph Fryer, a nurse practitioner board certified in both family medicine and psychiatric-mental health care. My background across these two areas has shaped the way I approach mental health treatment: I believe effective psychiatric care requires looking beyond a diagnosis and understanding the whole person.
I provide psychiatric care for children, adolescents, and adults experiencing a wide range of mental health concerns, including depression, anxiety disorders, ADHD, bipolar disorder, trauma-related disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders, sleep concerns, and other psychiatric conditions.
My Approach to Care
Mental and physical health are deeply interconnected. Medical conditions, medications, sleep, stress, relationships, lifestyle, and other factors can all influence how we think, feel, and function. My training in both family medicine and psychiatry allows me to consider these connections when evaluating mental health concerns and developing treatment recommendations.
My approach is warm, collaborative, solution-oriented, and individualized. I take time to understand your symptoms, history, previous treatment experiences, current circumstances, and what you hope to accomplish through treatment. Rather than simply treating a list of symptoms, my goal is to understand how those symptoms are affecting your life and identify a treatment plan that makes sense for you.
Medication Is a Tool — Not the Entire Treatment
Medication can play an important role in psychiatric treatment, but I don’t believe medication is the answer to every problem. When medication is appropriate, I work collaboratively with patients to discuss available options, potential benefits and risks, previous treatment responses, and individual preferences.
I also believe meaningful improvement often involves looking at the broader factors affecting mental wellness. Depending on your individual needs, this may include sleep, stress, physical health, relationships, coping strategies, lifestyle factors, therapy, and other sources of support.
What to Expect
Your first appointment is an opportunity for me to understand what has brought you to treatment and for you to determine whether my approach feels like a good fit.
We will review your current concerns, symptoms, medical and psychiatric history, medications, previous treatment experiences, and treatment goals. From there, we can discuss diagnostic considerations and available treatment options and develop an individualized plan together.
My goal is to provide an environment where you feel heard, respected, and involved in your care. Mental health treatment should be something we work on collaboratively—not something that is simply prescribed to you.
